B.Sc. Computer Science Course was started in the year 1987-88. The Department has produced around 1000(28 batches) Computer Science graduates who are well placed in India and abroad. The Department has been producing excellent results since its inception. The Department has been successfully functioning with a well equipped Computer Laboratory with 45 computers with a LCD projector fixed for the purpose of Seminar/Teaching/Guest lecture and a department library with more than 1500 books.

The department of Mathematics was established in the year 1975 with under graduate progrmme and upgraded as PG department by introducing M.Sc.,(Mathematics) in the year 1986. The Department consists of 10 teaching staff. The Department has been producing exemplary results right from its inception. The Department is constantly concentrating on the overall development of students. So far 39 batches of UG students and 29 batches of PG students have successfully finished their courses. Many students have joined prestigious institutions like M.I.T., I.I.T., C.M.I., M.K.U., etc., for their higher studies and have been well placed in various field in India and abroad. There is a library for lending books to all students and staff.

The Department of Physics was started in the year 1967. Pre-University course was introduced in the college for the students who studied Physics as Ancillary subject. There were tutors and demonstrators for teaching the theory and practical. Later on the department was upgraded with B.Sc (Physics) Major course in the year 1980 in the college. Since then the department has been offering the course to cater the needs of the science and engineering sectors. The department has adequate number of class rooms, staff room and a well equipped laboratory to accommodate nearly 100 numbers of major students and 132 numbers of ancillary students. So far 34 batches of students have successfully finished their graduation. Many students have joined the prestigious institutions like M.I.T, I.I.T., I.I.Sc for their higher studies. Some of the students are working in the high prestigious educational institutions/govt sectors both in the state and central governments like ISRO, IGCAR etc., The department conducts skill based experiments in all subjects. The department maintains a library with nearly 300 books. Sophisticated research laboratory is established. It is equipped with LCD Projector and computers in addition to the modern equipments like Ultrasonic interferometer, Laser, CRO etc., for demonstrating the experiments. Subjects like Bio-Physics, Nano physics are introduced in the course to meet the current requirements.

Started as a supportive subject to P.U.C from 1967 and allied one to UG Mathematics course from 1972, the department elevated to offer B.Sc., (Chemistry) major programme in 1979. The Department has been producing exemplary results right from its inception. The Department is constantly concentrating on the overall development of students. So far 36 batches of students have successfully completed their graduation. Many of them have pursued their higher education in various prestigious institutions like M.I.T, I.I.Sc, I.I.T and the others have been well placed as Production Executives and Marketing Executives in chemical and pharma industries.

The department started offering UG programme (BBA) since 1972 under Government Aided Stream. It launched MBA programme in 1994 under Self-financing stream with the approval of AICTE. It has steadily developed into a research department offering M.Phil in Management studies at present. It has facilitated several students to emerge as successful entrepreneurs, efficient managers and independent professionals. Most of our students suit to the present industrial requirements. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the corporate. The department serves the students community with experienced faculty members and a very good infrastructure. There is a collection of books in the department library.

The B.Com (corporate secretaryship) major programme was started in 1984. The department’s unique feature is that it is the first department which stared admitted girl students in 1984 itself. Thus it is the pioneer department to introduce co-education. The department has been producing exemplary results right from its inception. The department is constantly concentrating on the overall development of students. So far 31 batches of students have successfully completed their graduation. Many students have joined prestigious institutions like Alagappa university, Madurai Kamaraj university for their higher studies. Our students have been well placed in public and private sectors. The course is designed to lay foundation for ACS for the aspiring students. Many papers are law oriented and accounts oriented.

The history of the department begins along with the inception of the college as the study of English is mandatory and very important. B.A. English course was started in 1972 to cater the demands of the students. The department reached a milestone in 1982 with the commencement of Post-graduate course. M.Phil English was started in 2004 for the benefit of research aspirants. The department is home to more than 3000 students. The alumni of the department are well placed in various private and public sectors. The department maintains a library that has more than 3500 books for the benefit of the students and scholars of English.

Sourashtra College was started in 1967. Sanctioned post is four. At that time Part I Tamil Department original and Dr. Ramakodi was the head of the department. Under his leadership there were three assistant professers. They Were

Department of Economics Dr. K.R. Srinivasan is the Head of the Department which has three faculties (1+2). He is a SLET qualified person. Dr. S. Lakshmanamoorthy is also pursuing Ph.D. Dr. K. Gnanaguru is working as a Management staff. The Department is rendering services to the major departments like Commerce, Business Administration and Corporate Secretaryship.

Duration of the Course

The duration of the course shall be three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

The Sanskrit Department was established in the year of 1981 by Dr.T.R.Dhamodharan and has been offering Part-I Sankrit Language to I and II year UG students who opt for it.

The seed of Hindi Department of Sourashtra College was sown in the year 1967, Dr.K.M.Chandramohan had been instrumental in laying the foundation. Later Dr. N.S.G. Shanta Shankari has nurtured the department with her utmost dedication. Now department is flourishing under the guidance of very efficient faculty. Hindi is widely acclaimed and now it has reached the status of International language of friendship next to English. Now multinational companies are dependant only on Hindi Language for marketing their products. The curriculum is designed to fulfill today’s demand. The department offers Part-I Hindi to U.G. students who opt for it.

The Department of Botany was established in the year of 1979 and has been offering ancillary subject to the Under Graduate Chemistry course students since 1979. The department has been supporting for producing ideal results right from its inception.
