ABOUT THE COLLEGE

The College started from June 1967 with Pre-University Courses and B.A English, B.B.A., and B. Com courses were introduced and the college began to function from July 1972 onwards. The college is managed by the Sourashtra College Council, Madurai. During 80s M. Com, M.A English, M. Sc Mathematics were introduced. As a milestone in the history of the college, the department of Commerce was made a Research centre by introducing Ph. D. The College was Awarded Autonomous status by the UGC from the academic year 2011 – 2012 and it was conferred by the Madruai Kamaraj University.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY

HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY:
Our college library building was opened on 29.09.1980 by his Excellency Sri. Prabhudas Patwari the then governor of Tamilnadu, under the presidentship of late sri. A.G. Subburaman M.P. Our college library is functioning in a Computerized basis. It fulfils the needs of the students in various fields of study. All students and staff of Sourashtra College are members of this library. A total number of Books 61,500 collection and 9 News papers in various disciplines are available in the library. Open access system is followed and Barcoding System functioning by books Issue , Return and Renewal Work for research scholars, post graduate, and under graduate students and Staff. The students maintain strict discipline in the library.

Library User
• All enrolled students are the members of the Gentral Library. All the teaching faculty members and Non-teaching staff are utilizing library facilities.
• The Library follows Open Access System. The users are free to enter the stack room and can choose the books of their choice.
• Students borrow books through ROVAN LMS – Library Management Software.
• UG students can borrow 3 books and PG, students borrow 4 books at a time for a period of 15 days.
• If he has not renewed or returned the books in time he will be liable to pay a fine of Re.1 per day for the belated period.
• When the user loses the book / books and journal / magazine the library will collect 3 times of the actual cost along with fine or he can replace the same with the latest edition of that book.
• Staff Members can borrow ten books for a period of per semester.
• They can also borrow journals and magazines which are not current issues.
• The books can be retained at the time of examination and can be extended.

• Keep Silence in Library Area.
• Entry is permitted with ID card only.
• Scan your ID While entering and going out from the library.
• Members are requested not to bring their belongings inside the library.
• The borrowed Books should be returned on or before the due date
• Overdue charges will be acceptable for books returned after the due date.
• Loss of books, if any, should be reported to the librarian immediately.
• If the borrower is unable to replace the lost books by another good copy, user has to pay the cost of the book as per Government norms.
• Do not Misplace the Books.
• Do not tamper, tear, underline or mark in the books.
