The Department (B.Sc Electronics) was started during the Year 1996-1997, as the first college in Madurai,Kamaraj University area Since then the department has been successfully offering courses to cater to the needs of Electronics Industry.
The Course was changed into B.Sc Electronics & Communication in the Year 2002-2003. M.Sc Electronics & Communication was introduced in the Year 2012-2013 with dedicated lab facilities. The Department has adequate number of rooms and Laboratories to accommodate students and Staff.

OVERVIEW

Objectives

The Objective of Courses conducted in Electronics & Communication Department is to make the students well versed in recent trends such as Designing & Servicing in Electronics Industries, Embedded Technology, Virtual Instrumentation, VLSI, Communication Systems and Government Sectors such as BSNL, Railways, Defense, Police Department (Communication N/W), TNEB etc…

Eligibility for Admission

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Sc Electronics & Communication course must Have passed the Higher Secondary Examination with Mathematics & Physics as Compulsory subjects (Or)
Have a Diploma in Electronics
Candidates seeking admission to the M.Sc Electronics & Communication course must
Be an Undergraduate in Electronics & Communication/ Electronics/ Industrial Electronics/ Applied Electronics/ Physics/ CS/ IT/ BCA/ Applied Science/ Mathematics with Ancillary Physics (Or)
Have completed +2 followed by 3 Year Diploma in ECE, EEE, CSE, ICE

Duration of the Course

B.Sc Electronics & Communication The Duration of the course shall be three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

M.Sc Electronics & Communication The Duration of the course shall be two academic years comprising four semesters with two semesters in each academic year. In Fourth semester students will undergo a Real-time Project in Industry.

B.Sc Electronics & Communication The Course includes some important subjects like Electronic Devices, Opto Electronics, Electronic Measurements, Digital Electronics, Electronic Circuits, Satellite Communication, Analog Communication, Digital Communication, Computer Network, Computer Programming, Electronic Equipments and Servicing, Bio-Medical Electronics, Microprocessor and Microcontroller and so on.

M.Sc Electronics & Communication The Course includes some important subjects like Linear and Digital Electronics, Advanced Microprocessor, Mathematics, Computer Programming, Signals and Systems, Virtual Instrumentation, Digital Communication, Embedded System, VLSI, DSP, Advanced Communication, Electronic Equipments and Servicing. Students will undergo a real time project for four months in fourth semester.

Special Features

The unique feature of this course is that the students will undergo real-time Industrial project for four months during the fourth semester. The purpose of the training in industry is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Another distinct feature of this course is that the syllabus for different subjects has been framed in accordance with NET / SLET Exams.

Prof. M. Saravana Kumar is the Head of the Department. This department has four M.Phil Qualified staff.

Students from local, neighboring and far-off places join in our courses. The Average result for the past five years is 65.59%.

Every teacher is engaged in counseling of students. According to the college system, every teacher has to look after 15 students in the department. Student’s records are maintained. The internal and external marks are entered. Most of the Teachers have participated in State and National level Conferences and Seminars.

Prof. M. Saravana Kumar has acted as resource person in seminars conducted by other colleges. He has also conducted classes (Cell Phone Servicing) under Community College Scheme for uplift and development of rural students. He is involved in designing and fabricating equipments for Undergraduate and Postgraduate lab experiments.

The students are helped in all possible ways for learning and carrier development. The students are encouraged to participate in Symposium conducted by other colleges. Our department has produced university rank holders.

The Department has conducted Inter-college symposium (TRIGGER) and science exhibition for school students. Industry Experts from Electronics industry are invited frequently to conduct seminars. Implant Training is compulsory for Postgraduate students to get exposure in the Industry. Part time faculty is appointed to provide Audio Video Program for Undergraduate students to develop their practical skills in servicing and maintenance of electronic equipments. PCB Designing and Computer hardware Interfacing programs are also provided at free of cost.

We publish interesting circuits daily (Today’s Circuit) for students to try out in the LAB. The Department motivates the Undergraduates to pursue their Post graduation in Electronics & Communication which will help them to pursue Research or Career in MNC’s.

After introduction of autonomous system in our college, the syllabus was revised this year.

The department library is stocked with 681 books. Two computers are available in the department for the use of student learning.

The laboratory has been updated with more number of apparatus and every year books are added to the department library.

Power Point presentation and OHP presentation are used to handle classes and seminars.

The staff members of the department are guiding the students to take a right path in their learning. The tutor ward system is followed and students are benefited by this.

Our staff members are acting as members of Board of studies in colleges and university. Staff members are guiding the students to take up their projects.

The staff members have participated in handling the classes for the community college set at Nilaiyur and taught the operation of mobile phone.

Students are assessed through internal tests, assignments, seminars, quiz programmes and the class tests are also conducted periodically for the students.

Placement Cell of the college gives all the notices and brochures to the department for circulation among the students.

Students are involved in conducting the association activities and participated in other social activities like Lion’s club etc.,

The department has helpled in forming the community college set up at Nilaiyur.

The department has planned to initiate to get new MoUs and to conduct National Workshop and Seminars.
