BACHELOR OF COMPUTER APPLICATION (B.C.A) – (S.F)
Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.) major programme was started during 2010 with Maths / Accountancy as Ancillary subjects. The Department has been producing exemplary results right from its inception. The Department is constantly concentrating on the overall development of students. So far 5 batches of students have successfully finished their graduation. Many students have placed in prestigeous MNC’s companies like TCS, CTS, Wipro and other premium MNC’s. Since then, The Department has been successfully functioning with a well equipped Computer laboratory and a Department Library.
Prof. O.K. Hariharan is acting as the Head of the Department. The Department has HOD and three faculty members. All the staff members have completed M.Phil. National and International Journals were published by our faculty members. 1 international and 2 national papers were published by Head, Prof,Mr. O.K.Hariharan, 1 International papers and 1 National and were published by Prof,Mrs.A.Dhavapandiammal, 3 International papers were published by Prof. Mrs. M.S.Krishnaveni.
Most of the students are from the Tamil medium. 80% of male students and 20% of female students get enrolled in our course. Students from local and neighbouring areas (in and around Madurai) join in our course.
The department maintains a small library with a total of 208 books.
A separate air-conditioned computer laboratory has been set up with more than 35 number of computers with high configuration and all the system connected by network with windows servers.
In addition to conventional class room teaching, Power Point presentation and OHP presentation are used to handle classes and seminars.
The staff members of the department are guiding the students for their learning and character. The tutor ward system is followed and students are benefited by this.
Our staff members are acting as Members of Board of studies in colleges and university. Staff members are guiding the students to take up their projects. Students are assessed through internal tests, assignments, seminars, quiz programmes and the class tests are also conducted periodically for the students.
To prepare the students and make aware of software applications and hardware components in a computer independently and to be a programmer, to take up higher studies in Computer Science/Application and teacher training streams.
Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination with 10+2 pattern conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Government of Tamil Nadu or any other examinations accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto and the candidate should have studied +2 level Mathematics with Physics/commerce/Economics as subject of study in the 10+2 pattern. The eligibility criteria are subject to change by the Higher Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and the Madurai Kamaraj University.
The students shall undergo the prescribed course of study for a period of three academic years.(six semesters).

The Bachelor of Computer Application syllabus has been updated every three years by the Board of Studies for computer science of Madurai Kamaraj University. At present there are 8 language papers,10 major theory papers, 7 computer practical papers, 4 allied papers, 4 skill based paper, 4 Elective papers, 2 Non-Major Elective papers.
